Nuggle nest June 28, 2010 LLL :0)...great product....Great for travel. Used it for more than just sleep...as a changing are on the bed, and for belly time..
Not for picky sleepers June 27, 2010 C. Matheson (Centerville, UT) We bought this product because we couldn't get our baby to sleep in her bassinet. She would only sleep in bed with us, but that seemed dangerous. This seemed like a safe way to let her sleep in bed. Unfortunately, she didn't want to sleep in this thing either. I guess the sides still made her feel too isolated. So, I think this product is well-built and is probably useful for many people, but if your baby doesn't like sleeping in her own bed, this product probably will not help.
Nice idea in theory... June 26, 2010 Elizabeth The Snuggle Nest is a great idea in theory, however it is a paradoxical baby item; at the same time the sleeper seems too bulky (for even a King-sized bed) it seems to be too small for a baby beyond the first few weeks of life. We are a co-sleeping family, who found our Snuggle Nest collecting dust after just a few times of trying to use it.
Cozy way to keep baby close June 18, 2010 Jinkster (Washington, D.C.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this for our daughter after it was clear that she hated sleeping in her co-sleeper crib. Apparently being *next* to our bed wasn't close enough - she wanted to be *in* bed with us :) Because co-sleeping is dangerous without protection for newborns, we researched and found this product.
We have a queen-sized bed, and the snuggle nest did make it a tight fit for everyone. But being next to our baby, hearing her breathe, and being able to easily turn over and nurse her made it very worthwhile. I'm exclusively breastfeeding, and those first weeks where she nursed seemingly all the time would have been twice as bad had I not been able to nurse her while still in bed.
The mattress is compact and sturdy (as it's supposed to be), and the side bolsters did a good job of preventing her from wiggling too far to the right or the left. The LED nightlight was very impressive - effective without being glaring. All of the fabric parts are removable from the plastic shell and machine washable. The ease of folding up the bed meant that we took it with us when we traveled with her - no crib needed in a hotel or grandma's house, we just unfolded the snuggle nest. That alone was a big stress reducer.
Now for a downside - your child may grow out of it very quickly. Our daughter is a long baby, and we started noticing a tight fit as early as three months old. By 3 1/2 months, we decided to transition her back to a crib. Thankfully she was as ready as we were, and now at 4 months she sleeps in her own crib all night. All in all, it was a great purchase and we certainly will keep the snuggle nest for use with our next child.
Excellent product to keep newborns close & facilitates breastfeeding May 4, 2010 D. Fernandez (New York, NY) I used the Snuggle Nest with both kids and it allowed me to see and hear them sleeping and also to pick them up to breastfeed them, all without getting up. Also, there was no way for either of us to roll on top of the baby.
In response to the critical review saying that it increases the risk of SIDS, I'm not sure the reviewer has seen the product in real life. With the Snuggle Nest, there are no pillows or blankets anywhere near the infant's face (no blankets at all actually). There are 2 sleep positioners that go around the baby's hips to keep them on their back, thus, potentially decreasing the risk of SIDS, although newborns can't turn over anyway. You can also use the Snuggle Nest without the sleep positioners. And because you are right next to the baby, you can see and hear if the baby is in even slight distress. I was so exhausted as a new mother, I was not able to get out of bed to get the baby every hour or two for a feeding (I tried it with the first baby - it did not work).
I have heard that breastfeeding decreases the risk of SIDS; this product makes it easier to breastfeed. Whether you're breastfeeding or bottlefeeding, I recommend doing it in bed or somewhere that even if you fall asleep and drop the baby, the baby will land on a soft surface (don't laugh, it happens, and then you will be wide awake!).
The only product that I think is potentially better for keeping baby close and safe is the bassinet that attaches to the side of your bed with no wall in between (looks like a pack and play, but missing the side next to the bed). I don't remember what it's called, and didn't get it because of the cost and that I already had the Snuggle Nest and a pack and play, but it's worth checking out. I believe it can be used past the newborn stage, unlike the Snuggle Nest.
